Miami Agency Announces Series of Activities in January To Highlight National Mentoring Month
MIAMI – December 18, 2013 – This January Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami leads the National Mentoring Month initiative, a nation-wide awareness campaign promoting mentoring and the extreme need for mentors in South Florida. The goal of the campaign is to recruit hundreds of volunteers willing to work with kids through local mentoring agencies including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.Events include:
Wednesday, January 8, 2014 – Recruitment and fundraiser at Whole Foods Market is Coral Gables A recruitment team will be present at the store for inquiries and 5% of all sales at the store for the day will be donated to BBBS of Miami.
Saturday, January 11, 2014 - Etiquette Class for matches, BBBS offices, Miami Mentors will get all the help they need to teach their littles manners and proper etiquette. Class conducted by the president of the Veritas Institute, the matches will learn topics like tables manners, proper introductions, image and delivering a handshake. There will also be surprises for the bigs to celebrate them for National Mentoring Month.
Sunday, January 12, 2014 - Paddle Board Championship, Bayside, Miami The Orange Bowl Paddle Championship strives to be the largest urban water event in the country. This year’s event will attract the world’s top competitors in paddle boarding as well as hundreds of amateur participants. All funds raised by the event will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami to fund mentorship activities in the area. The Paddle Board Championship will take place January 11th and 12th, 2014 at Bayside Marketplace - Downtown Miami and will feature 7 Mile Elite and 3 Mile Recreational Courses. Highlights also include a free paddleboard clinic for Bigs and Littles.

Saturday, January 25, 2014 – Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Miami We’re rolling out the purple carpet to celebrate our mentors! On January 25th BBBS will hold its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Miami. This fun filled celebration for mentors and their mentees will take place from 12:00pm – 3:00pm.
Tuesday, January 28, 2014 – MRC Volunteer Enrichment Series Mentor Training, Doubletree Grand Hotel, Miami Big Brothers Big Sisters welcomes volunteers from the Miami Mentoring Collaborative to the Doubletree Grand Hotel to mingle and participate in a volunteer enrichment series mentor training. The topic will be “How to make a difference”. Agencies present will be BBBS, Educate Tomorrow, Hope for Miami and Communities in School.
Thursday, January 30, 2014 – MRC Bring a Friend Happy Hour in Celebration of the Mentors, Mondrian Hotel, Miami Beach (location to be confirmed) We will be honoring the mentors with special surprises! Also, bring a friend or two, to the Mondrian Hotel for cocktails and sweet treats, and learn about the many mentoring opportunities available in Miami-Dade County.
